From Monday 21st March, The Scottish Government will withdraw most Covid measures. With this is mind, and with Covid cases rising in Scotland here are some final thoughts provided by David Green, who has been working with the Berwickshire Association for Voluntary Service (Bavs) over the pandemic.
We are seeing a rise in the number of positive COVID-19 cases; and an increase in the subsequent number of people being admitted to hospital. With regulations due to be lifted soon, this perhaps underlines the need for continued vigilance; and to ensure that organisations continue to follow good practice on controlling the infection risk.
In Scotland, the daily case rate reached over 14,000 on 10 March, with more people in hospital that at any time since 8 February. This compares to just under 9500 new cases being recorded on 3 March. In the 7 days to 5 March, cases in the Scottish Borders rose by 32.4% on the previous 7-day period. This is despite good vaccination rates (80% having had a third dose).
